UPS prepares for ‘peak week’

UPS said Monday it expects to deliver 29 million packages Tuesday, which would be a record-setting day for the company.
The week before the Christmas holiday is known as “peak weak” because of the surge in package pickup and delivery.
UPS said that during this seven-day period, nearly 100,000 package cars, vans, tractors, motorcycles and alternative fuel vehicles will be deployed, and about 2,388 UPS cargo flights will take off daily around the globe.
In addition, UPS said it needs 55,000 seasonal employees to help with the holiday rush.
To get a package to its destination on Christmas Day, UPS said customers can ship as late as Monday using air services.
