UPS says busiest day will be Dec. 22

The integrator is predicting handling 34 million packages on its busiest day.    UPS has elaborated on prediction that it will see 11-percent, year-over-year, growth this December, adding that during its busiest day of the year it will deliver 34 million packages.
   UPS’ busiest day will occur on Dec. 22; FedEx earlier highlighted Dec. 15 as its anticipated busiest day with 22.6 million shipments on that day.
   UPS also said that six days during peak season will surpass last year’s single-day shipment record of 31 million packages.
   The integrator will expand its workforce to between 90,000 and 95,000 workers to handle the additional traffic.
   “Major retailers have chosen UPS to deliver strong e-commerce growth during 2014, as consumer acceptance for online purchases continues to grow steadily,” stated Alan Gershenhorn, UPS executive vice president and chief commercial officer. “The holiday season is a major retail sales opportunity for our customers, and we have worked closely with many of our shippers to plan delivery volumes. Our objective is to ensure that all of our year-round business and retail shippers can take maximum advantage of expanded UPS capacity during this important period.”
