UPS to help companies discard electronics
UPS Supply Chain solutions has added a new reverse logistics service to help companies manage the process of properly discarding used electronic equipment.
Through the Asset Recovery and Recycling Management service, UPS will manage the repair, recycling or disposal of computers, cell phones, printers and other electronic components.
Governments are tightening regulations on disposal of such equipment because of toxic metals and other materials that can leach into the ground if dumped in a landfill. UPS predicts strong market demand for its service, citing a recycling industry report that 500 million units of computer equipment will be obsolete within five years.
