UPS announced Thursday that rates for its U.S. Ground, U.S. Air and international package services, as well as for air freight between the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico, will increase by an average of 4.9 percent, effective Dec. 26. UPS Freight rates will go up the same amount, effective Sept. 19.
The additional revenues will be used to support ongoing expansion and capability enhancements in order to meet customer expectations for fast, reliable service, the Atlanta-based logistics integrator said. The rate hike is consistent with those announced each fall for several years.
Rival FedEx is expected to follow with similar increases in the near future.
