UPS to welcome ocean cold-chain option in 2014

   UPS is taking its cold-chain offerings to the sea with plans to roll out a temperature-sensitive shipping program for ocean freight early next year.
   The announcement coincides with UPS’ expanded cold-chain offerings, Temperature True(r) Plus and Standard, which are already live.
   The Plus offering covers strict temperature ranges and a high level of monitoring for active and passive shipments, while the Standard offering comes with a lower level of in-transit monitoring.
   The ocean option, Temperature True(r) Saver, UPS said, is ideal for large-volume shipments for shippers who are primarily concerned about cost or are concerned about regulatory issues. Officials added that Temperature True(r) Saver is a first-to-market program.
   “We are seeing growth in the number of temperature sensitive shipments due to the increasing cold-chain regulations and expansion of generic products,” Dirk Van Peteghem, UPS’ vice president of Healthcare Logistics, stated. “Listening to the marketplace, we are further broadening our UPS Temperature True(r) portfolio to meet these needs while also helping companies ensure compliance for a broader range of product temperature requirements.”
