USDA denies trade help to Michigan catfish producers

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Foreign Agricultural Service has denied a petition for trade adjustment assistance filed Feb. 13 by the Michigan Fish Producers’ Association.

The association filed the petition on behalf of its channel catfish fishermen.

The agency said it’s investigation determined that landed prices for channel catfish did not decline by more than 20 percent due to imports during the January-December 2003 marketing year, a condition required for certifying the petition.
