USDA wants input on better import controls for invasive plants

USDA wants input on better import controls for invasive plants    The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service wants to generate a public discussion about how best to avoid the import of invasive plants and weeds into the United States.
The discussion will be conducted by the agency electronically. The USDA said it wants “an exchange of ideas and information about methods to evaluate plants for potential invasiveness.”
The public online discussion will be held from Nov. 27 to Jan. 26. “While anyone can access the discussion and read the comments, registration is required in order to participate in the discussion,” the USDA said.
Registration and access is available at
https://www.aphis.usda.gov/ppq/Q37/revision.html .
Members of the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Weed Team will participate in the discussion. The National Invasive Species Council Pathways Team and the North American Plant Protection Organization Invasive Species Panel are both expected to review the comments.
