USF Worldwide said Tuesday that it HAS purchased CaroTrans
International’s Puerto Rico Business unit. Terms of the sale were not
released.
It is the second Puerto Rico-based purchase this month for USF
Worldwide, the freight forwarding subsidiary of USFreightways. The company announced the
purchase of Best Ways Air Cargo, a Puerto Rico-based freight forwarder, on Aug. 9.
CaroTrans’ sale of the Puerto Rico business is part of the Union,
N.C.-based non-vessel-operating common carrier’s goal to "concentrate our efforts in
growing and developing our international neutral NVOCC
services," said Wayne Schmidt, president of CaroTrans.
