USTR awards $1.2 million WTO “capacity building” grant
The U.S. Trade Representative has awarded a new $1.2 million grant to the World Trade Organization for “capacity building” purposes in developing countries.USTR made the announcement at the heels of the WTO ministerial meeting in Cancun, Mexico, Sept. 10-14. Capacity building is the process of improving trade conditions in developing countries.
The grant follows another $1 million contribution made by the agency earlier this year.
USTR said the total U.S. spending on capacity building assistance in fiscal year 2003, ending Sept. 30, will amount to about $752 million.
