Vancouver, B.C. port joins 2010 Winter Olympics as sponsor The Port of Vancouver will provide organizers of the 2010 Winter Olympics with access to port-controlled properties to serve as a broadcasting center during the games, the Vancouver Sun reported Monday.
   Use of the property, which includes access to the roads, parking areas and other access points that the port controls around the Vancouver Convention and Exhibition Centre, is valued at nearly $3 million, port officials told the paper. The port property will be used during the 2010 Olympics as the main press and broadcasting center.
   The donation of the property use to games organizers has also qualified the port to join the games' sponsorship program as an official Olympic sponsor. A sponsorship of the games requires a contribution between just under $3 million to just over $14 million.
   Organizers of the games are attempting to raise about $730 million in corporate sponsorship, the paper said, and the port contribution raises the amount committed to the games by sponsors to just under $705 million.
   The Port of Vancouver is the busiest container port in Canada, handling more than 2.3 million TEUs last year.
