Vancouver mediation truck talks fail    Discussions to end the week-old strike of container truck drivers in the Canadian port of Vancouver have broken down, the Vancouver Container Truckers Association said Tuesday.
   “They refused to move beyond the existing inadequate rates,” the association said in a statement, referring to port brokers who employ the drivers.
   Last week, the federal and provincial governments appointed Vince Ready as mediator to try to settle the dispute between the truckers and the port. Some 1,000 drivers want a wage increase and compensation for higher fuel costs.
   The port of Vancouver said Tuesday that Ready has asked for representatives from the Vancouver Fraser River Port Authorities to participate in a session to discuss what role they could play in settling this dispute.
   “The strike costs the provincial economy as much as $30 million a day,” the port of Vancouver said.
