Vancouver’s first half container volume up 21%, 2 million TEUs predicted for year    The Port of Vancouver, British Columbia, reported that it handled 1.04 million TEUs in the first half of this year, up 21 percent from 853,238 TEUs in the same period last year, and confidently predicted it would pass 2 million TEUs for the full year for the first time.
   Loaded inbound containers increased 31 percent to 528,003 TEUs, from 404,450. Outbound containers totaled 378,103 TEUs, up 9 percent from 347,762. Empties increased 28 percent to 129,083 TEUs.
   “The increase is primarily attributed to a redirection of cargo to the Port of Vancouver from the Fraser River,” the port said in a statement.
   The total tonnage at the Canadian port for the first six months was flat at 38.2 million tons.
