Vietnamese company plans box services to U.S., Europe

A Vietnamese shipping line has ambitions to expand its network to Europe and Vietnam.

The online edition of Vietnam Economic Times said the domestic and intra-Asian shipping company Bien Dong Shipping Co., which is part of Viet Nam Shipbuilding Industry Corp., is planning to expand routes “to farther regions including Europe and North America” and “hoped that it would become a major player in the industry.”

According to the report, Bien Dong operates a fleet of “seven young container ships” with capacities of about 5,000 TEUs.

Vietnam’s exports to the United States have climbed 45 percent this year in the first seven months of the year and are expected to reach $7.3 billion in 2006.
