Virgin Atlantic approves GPS cargo tracker

Virgin Atlantic Cargo is now allowing shippers to place OnAsset Intelligence’s SENTRY FlightSafe tracker on cargo aboard its aircraft.
The tracker, which is placed in with the shipment and transmits temperature, humidity and other readings wirelessly to the shipper during the flight, was approved for use on Virgin flights after extensive testing.
“Customers can already track their cargo shipments with us via our Website, but we are always looking to provide other choices that increase the benefits we offer,” John Lloyd, director of Virgin Atlantic Cargo, said in a statement. “Our high service levels and reliability means freight forwarders and courier companies regularly choose Virgin Atlantic to deliver high value and sensitive cargo, so enabling them to use SENTRY FlightSafe means they can now give their own customers real-time information on the status of their shipment throughout its entire journey with us.”
Virgin is the third major carrier to approve SENTRY FlightSafe in 2013. Cathay Pacific Airways approved its use on Aug. 10, and US Airways approved it earlier this year. Southwest Airlines Cargo, the first carrier to accept SENTRY for use on its planes, gave the go-ahead for the technology in the summer of 2011. – Jon Ross
