Virgin Cargo adds Mumbai service

Virgin Atlantic Cargo said Tuesday it will offer same-day exports from Mumbai to the United States from Oct. 29.
The airline is restarting service to India’s financial hub, adding to its daily service between Delhi and London.
Quick transfers in London mean exports leaving Mumbai on Virgin’s daily 3:10 a.m. (local time) flights arrive the same day in New York by 4:50 p.m., Los Angeles by 6:55 p.m. and Newark by 7:05 p.m.
“We are seeing a high level of interest for transhipment traffic over London to our destinations in the U.S.,” said John Lloyd, director of cargo at Virgin Atlantic.
Virgin said it hopes to tap into demand from its home market in the United Kingdom to and from India as well. The United Kingdom’s biggest exports to India include precious metals and jewelry, and power generation and general industrial equipment. Apparel and clothing accessories are the United Kingdom’s biggest import commodity from India.
