VPA also said breakbulk totals increased to 32,011 tons, an 8.6 percent increase compared to totals from last March.
The port also handled 31,532 rail containers in March, a 12.5 percent increase over the same period last year.
The number of containers moved between the Port of Richmond and the Hampton Roads Harbor on the 64 Express barge service was 779, a 114 percent increase, the port said.
