Virginia shipper sentenced for illegal export to China WaveLab, a Reston, Va.-based firm, was sentenced to one year of supervised probation and a $15,000 fine, together with $85,000 forfeiture previously ordered, for the illegal export of electronic components to China.
   WaveLab admitted in its plea agreement that it 'knowingly and willfully' exported hundreds of power amplifiers that could be used in satellite communication of data, voice and video signals, as well as in wireless data communications. These amplifiers are also listed on the U.S. Commerce Department's Commerce Control List for national security reasons because of their potential military uses.
   The company admitted it failed to obtain the proper export licenses to ship more than 2,400 power amplifiers. The forfeiture of $85,000 represents the estimated profits obtained by WaveLab from the illegal exports, the Justice Department said in a June 6 statement.
