Vorwerk named CNS president

   Cargo Network Services, the U.S. subsidiary of the International Air Transport Association, has named Michael Vorwerk president, effective March 1.
   As part of this role, Vorwerk will also serve as executive director of Cargo 2000, an IATA-sponsored standardized management system designed to improve cargo service by streamlining processes, establishing performance indicators, and automating costly manual, paper-based functions.
   ‘With his background comprised of both airline and forwarding experience, he brings a unique supply chain perspective to this challenging industry role,’ said Aleks Popovich, global head of cargo at IATA, in a statement.
   Vorwerk started his career with Lufthansa in 1979 and has held various management positions in Europe and the United States. During the past four years, he served as managing director and chief operating officer of LifeConEx, a joint venture of Lufthansa Cargo and DHL Global Forwarding dedicated to temperature-controlled transportation for the life sciences industry, based in Plantation, Fla.

Tubbesing

   He replaces Jens Tubbesing, who left the organization last year. Tubbesing, an outspoken proponent of IATA’s e-Freight initiative, oversaw the relocation of CNS’s office from Garden City, N.Y. to Miami in June 2008.
   CNS, founded in 1985 shortly after the U.S. aviation industry’s deregulation, develops programs and services to improve the efficiency of the air cargo industry.
