Over a period of six years, WWL successfully reduced sulfur dioxide emissions by 75,550 tons, which the group said is the amount of sulfur dioxide emitted by the city of London over a similar period.
The group also cited the company’s lead when it comes to reducing the environmental threat of ballast water. WWL’s U.S. headquarters are in Woodcliff Lakes, N.J.
The award is named for the Norwegian explorer Thor Heyerdahl who gained fame for his oceanic voyages on the balsa raft Kon-Tiki and papyrus boats Ra I and Ra II, through which he tried to show ancient people could have traveled far distances with similar vessels.
