Waterfront Coalition praises BNSF Southern California gateway project

The Waterfront Coalition, which represents major U.S. importers, said in a statement Tuesday it is pleased that Burlington Northern Santa Fe’s notice of proposal for a new Southern California International Gateway is underway.

Coalition Executive Director Robin Lanier said in the group's recently released white paper calling for a nation marine container transportation system, that the Southern California gateway was identified as a key rail project whose completion should be expedited.

'The Waterfront Coalition supports BNSF's and the Port of Los Angeles’ vision to develop an environmentally friendly near-dock facility that will help alleviate congestion on Southern California freeways, reduce emissions, and move freight more efficiently,' Lanier said. “The Waterfront Coalition hopes the State of California’s support for the new BNSF SCIG facility, expressed in its’ recently released Goods Movement Action Plan, will serve to expedite the approval process.”
