WCO advisory panel adds private sector members

   The World Customs Organization recently appointed ocean carrier APL Ltd. and two other organizations to the Private Sector Consultative Group, which provides the international body advice on how to implement the Safe Framework of Standards for customs organizations to secure and facilitate trade.

   Secretary General Kunio Mikuriya also accepted the nominations of the Moroccan Business Federation (Conf'd'ration G'n'rale Des Entreprises Du Maroc) and OPORA Russia, which represents small and medium-size enterprises, trade unions and associations.

   The PSCG comprises 30 companies and associations from different parts of the world that serve under renewable two-year terms. Its next meeting is June 20-21 in Brussels, Belgium.

   APL said Earl Agron, vice president of corporate security, would represent the company on the PSGC.

   Carol West, managing director of the International Federation of Customs Brokers Associations' Canada region, was re-elected as chairman of the PSCG and IBM's Debbie Turnbull was elected vice chairman.
