WCO calls for greater cooperation among customs administrations

World Customs Organization secretary general Michel Danet called for customs administrations globally to increase their cooperation to combat terrorism and illicit trade.

Danet released his statement Thursday following the recent terrorist attack in Spain.

The WCO plans to increase the work of its specialized committees in international transportation security, physical security of containers and effective customs controls on goods, people and conveyances in departure and transit countries. Proposals will be made for adoption at the June WCO council session.

The WCO will also increase its cooperation with the United Nations, Interpol, and Europol.
