Westgarth, president of Teekay Marine Services, succeeds Nicholas Fistes, who has decided to step down as chairman due to other business commitments, the organization said.
Westgarth was elected at Intertanko's meeting in London Wednesday. He's been a member of the organization's council for nine year and a member of its executive committee since 2006. He has been vice chairman since May.
Teekay has a fleet of 165 vessels.
Intertanko has 270 members from 40 countries, with a combined fleet of 3,100 vessels.
