The breakbulk cargo is arriving from Korea in three ship calls to Terminal 6.
Vestas is partnering with the Port of Portland to move wind turbine tower sections through Terminal 6.
The sections for about 50 towers will be used on a windmill project in eastern Oregon.
It’s the first time in 10 years wind turbine parts, also referred to as breakbulk cargo, have been handled at Terminal 6. Portland-based Omega Morgan, which specializes in moving complex, heavy equipment, is the logistics partner handling the shipment.
“We are focused on moving more breakbulk through Terminal 6 as we continue to serve shippers at our multiuse terminal,” said Keith Leavitt, Port of Portland chief commercial officer. “The local partnerships needed to complete this work complement a project that will bring renewable energy to the state.”
The shipments are arriving from Korea in three separate ship calls to the terminal. The first shipment arrived last Thursday. Due to its large size, the cargo will be moved by truck during evening hours to its destination to minimize traffic impacts on the highway.
