Work begins to salvage grounded container vessel

Salvors began working in Tateyama harbor to free the grounded MOL Express.

   Seaspan Corporation reported Jan. 11, 2015 the MOL Express ran aground in Tateyama harbor in Japan.
   Seaspan and Mitsui O.S.K. Line (MOL) are working with salvage experts to refloat and repair the 4,600-TEU containership.
   Initial reports indicated that there were no crew injuries, the vessel’s hull is in stable condition and there has been no environmental damage as a result of the incident.
   The MOL Express is managed by Seaspan Corporation and is currently on charter to MOL. The vessel is owned by Greater China Intermodal Investments LLC, a joint-venture between the Seaspan Corporation, the Carlyle Group, and affiliates of the Washington family and Tiger Group Investments.
  Seaspan said in a release that the company will provide further information as it becomes available.
