Work starts on Long Beach Middle Harbor project

Work starts on Long Beach Middle Harbor project    Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners this week approved a $123 million dredging and wharf building contract that officially starts construction of the landmark Middle Harbor Redevelopment Project, which will incorporate two smaller container terminals into one larger facility.
   The port called it one of the largest and most ambitious efforts it's ever undertaken. The contract approved this week covers the first part of the $1 billion modernization and consolidation project, which is scheduled to take nine years to complete.
   The contract was awarded to a joint venture of the Seattle-based Manson and Connolly construction companies.
