WTS Agencies, Old Dominion University team up for shipping courses

Virginia Beach, Va.-based WTS Agencies Inc. said it has commenced a partnership with the executive development center of Old Dominion University’s College of Business and Public Administration to provide training courses on shipping.

WTS Agencies, a provider of agency and information technology services and training courses, has designed a “Shipping 101 basic training course” that covers the history of international cargo trade, global geography, the sales process, intermodal transportation and port equipment, the bill of lading, Customs documentation, the import process and inland shipping.

WTS Agencies said its education program was originally created to expand the skills and knowledge base of the local workforce already involved in the maritime industry. “The maritime industry of Virginia is responsible for over 165,000 jobs, 25 percent of which come from Hampton Roads,” the company said. “Each year, for the past two years, an additional 6,000 maritime related positions have been added in the area.”

Old Dominion University, located in Norfolk, provides a Graduate Degree in Maritime Studies that is a track in its MBA program.
