The company’s 2017 recruitment target exceeds last year’s level by approximately 1,000 workers, due primarily to the growth in e-commerce, the company stated.
“The dynamic growth in e-commerce and omnichannel is creating huge opportunities for our retail customers. We’re looking for individuals with a strong work ethic who want to further their skills with a company that prioritizes training, technology and safety,” said Troy Cooper, chief operating officer of XPO Logistics.
E-commerce has caused many traditional parcel and freight carriers to up their seasonal hires, with FedEx adding more than 50,000 positions, UPS adding 95,000 seasonal workers, and online retailer and aspiring logistics provider Amazon.com Inc hiring 120,000 workers in the U.S., according to Reuters.
FedEx, along with UPS, have also issued seasonal fees under the expectation of high volumes of oversized, ill-packaged and rushed parcels this season.
XPO handles e-commerce delivery and last-mile logistics via its contract logistics operations for over $85 billion of goods globally, and it is the largest outsourced e-fulfillment provider in Europe. During the company’s second quarter assessment, Bradley Jacobs, chairman and chief executive officer said XPO’s most notable growth came from its last-mile and contract logistics business lines, “which are two of the fastest-growing parts of the supply chain were XPO holds leading positions in e-commerce.”
