XPO opens pallet distribution hub, acquires natural gas tractors

The third-party logistics provider acquired natural gas tractors and opened a pallet distribution hub outside Paris.    XPO Logistics took possession of 31 natural gas-powered tractors for its truck fleet in France and inaugurated a new pallet distribution hub, the third-party logistics provider said.
   The vehicles, which run on liquefied or compressed natural gas, were purchased from Iveco and comprise the largest gas-powered truck fleet of its kind in France.
   The natural gas tractors generate 96 percent less fine particle emissions and 70 percent less nitrogen oxide than the limit permitted under European Union regulations. XPO said it plans to exclusively operate the Bondoufle pallet distribution hub with gas-powered tractors and straight trucks, and expects to introduce gas-powered tractors in other branches as well.
   The Bondoufle branch dispatches pallet deliveries to central Paris and the southern Ile-de-France region, and will collect pallets from the region destined for shipment through France.
   The eco-friendly hub follows XPO initiatives to use the Seine River for transport of goods from ports and the development of an urban rail shuttle service into Paris designed to minimize truck traffic and pollution.
   Meanwhile, XPO also said multinational packaging manufacturer Sealed Air Corp. has renewed its contract for warehousing and distribution services in the United Kingdom.
   It has been one year since XPO acquired Norbert Dentressangle and entered the European logistics market.
