Delivery will begin in the second quarter of 2020.
Yang Ming said these new vessels will be well-suited for deployment in most of the major ports in the Asian region and will be equipped with advanced eco-friendly equipment.
Yang Ming also will take delivery of five, 14,000-TEU chartered vessels beginning in the fourth quarter of this year and throughout the first half of next year, as well as 10, 12,000-TEU chartered vessels in 2020 and 2021.
“These Neo-Panamax containerships will update our fleet and help to provide efficiency, energy savings and lowered unit costs,” Yang Ming said.
Meanwhile, Yang Ming on Wednesday also announced a tender for selling 2,301 units of used reefer containers.
The bidding meeting is tentatively scheduled to take place at Yang Ming’s headquarters at 10 a.m. Taipei time Sept. 4. The quotation form must be submitted no later than noon Aug. 24 Taipei time, and the required amount of bid bond pursuant to the bidding instruction must be submitted before the bidding meeting.
Yang Ming last week unveiled its second-quarter 2018 financial results, which were bogged down by higher bunker prices, lower spot rates and oversupply across the industry. The carrier recorded a net loss of 3.8 billion new Taiwan dollars (U.S. $129.1 million), compared to a net loss of NTD 445 million for the second quarter of 2017.
