Yang Ming to jump on 8,000-TEU bandwagon    Yang Ming is the latest carrier to confirm it is planning to order vessels of about 8,000-TEU capacities. The Taiwanese shipping line is believed to be close to placing the orders with a shipyard.
   The 8,000-TEU vessel size is becoming a standard in the Asian trades. “K” Line and COSCO, two partners of Yang Ming in the CKYH alliance, have already committed to 8,000-TEU tonnage. COSCO’s 8,000-TEU ships are already in operation, while “K” Line has ordered four 8,000-TEU vessels, due for delivery from September 2006.
   “K” Line is also considering ordering more 8,000-TEU ships.
   Meanwhile, Yang Ming is looking at how to deploy four new 1,500-TEU vessels in the transpacific trade. One option under study is to operate them between Asian and Pacific Northwest ports.
