Yantian gets faster customs procedures    The port of Yantian in southern China said the local Shenzhen and Dapeng Customs have streamlined customs procedures at the port concerning the import and international transshipment cargoes.
   In March, Shenzhen Customs initiated a predeclaration procedure for import-laden containers. The new procedures allow shipping agents and customs brokers to make import declarations before the cargo arrives. Once the container arrives at the port, Yantian International Container Terminals will discharge it and send it directly to the inspection area.
   “This saves one day in the terminal and reduces the logistics costs for the cargo owner,” the port operator said.
   At the request of international shipping lines, Dapeng Customs has upgraded its computer system and simplified the documentation procedure for international transshipment. It has also cancelled the original regulation whereby transshipment cargoes had to be discharged and remain at the terminal before being released. Now, international transshipment cargoes can be loaded onto another vessel immediately after arrival, provided the shipping lines make a predeclaration in advance.
   Later this year, Customs will launch a series new measures, such as centralized inspection and improved gatehouse sealing, the Chinese port reported.
