YellowRoadway renames itself
YellowRoadway Corp. has changed its name to YRC Worldwide Inc. to reflect the company’s expansion from a dominant U.S. trucking company into a global logistics provider.
Yellow Corp. acquired top four less-than-truckload carrier Roadway Corp. in December 2003 to go along with its Yellow Transportation and New Penn Motor subsidiaries and expand its next-day and regional service capabilities. Last year, YellowRoadway acquired USF Corp. and its stable of regional trucking companies.
Meanwhile, the company’s third party logistics unit, Meridian IQ, continues to expand. Last year Meridian formed a joint venture with a Chinese company to provide logistics and freight forwarding capability in China.
