YTD freight volumes grow at SW Florida Intl. Airport despite September decline

So far in 2017, the airport has seen a total of 11,787 tons of freight compared to 11,333 tons during the same nine-month period in calendar year 2016.    A total of 2.41 million pounds of freight traveled through Southwest Florida International Airport in September, down slightly from 2.44 million in the same month last year, according to newly released data.
   Statistics released Oct. 16 by the airport show that last month’s 2.41 million pounds (1,206 tons) of freight was the lowest for any month of the current calendar year, but within 2,000 pounds (one ton) of the historical averages for the month over the past decade.
   So far in 2017, the airport has seen a total of 23.57 million pounds (11,787 tons) of freight, compared to 22.66 million pounds (11,333 tons) during the same 9-month period in calendar year 2016.
   Southwest Florida International, a county-owned airport in the South Fort Myers region of unincorporated Lee County, Florida, is one of the busiest single-runway airports in the United States after San Diego International Airport, according to data.
   Cargo airlines FedEx Express and UPS Air both have operations at the airport.
