Zumstein, Cheeseman expand GeoLogic contracts

NIT League briefs FMC on industry issues    Zumstein Inc., and Cheeseman Trucking, two Ohio-based sister companies, have broadened their contracts for communications and tracking systems from GeoLogic Solutions, a provider of wireless technology for the trucking industry.
   Both Zumstein and Cheeseman were users of earlier GeoLogic multi-mode systems. In 1999, Zumstein, which has a 220-tractor fleet hauling truckload freight in the U.S. and Canada, bought Cheeseman, a 165-tractor less-than-truckload operation that specializes in large palletized shipments. Since both companies 'were following the same (information technology) path, it made it easier to combine operations,' said Jim Jones, director of information systems at Zumstein.
   Today, both companies have bought additional MobileMax Multi-Mode systems from GeoLogic. In 2004, all of Cheeseman's trucks converted to MobileMax units, and all Zumstein vehicles 'are scheduled to be upgraded within the next month or two,' Zumstein said in a statement.
   GeoLogic, based in Herndon, Va., has installed untethered trailer tracking and asset management systems on nearly 50,000 commercial trucks and trailers. For more information, visit https://www.goGeoLogic.com.
