Mack Trucks said that it would renew its commitment to the American Trucking Association’s (ATA) Share the Road campaign and in so doing, would donate a 2018 model Mack Anthem 70-inch stand up sleeper model.
The announcement was made Monday at a key handover ceremony at ATA’s Management Conference & Exhibition in Orlando. Jonathan Randall, senior vice president of sales for Mack Trucks North America, presented a key to the truck to Chris Spear, ATA president.
Spear noted that the Share the Road program is designed to promote highway safety by teaching the public how to drive safely around trucks, including being aware of blind spots.
“We have the responsibility to get the best of the best [drivers], Mack has the responsibility to put them in the best of the best [equipment],” said Spear.
“Safety is a key focus for Mack, something we’ve demonstrated through the design of our new Anthem model and the many safety-focused features it includes,” said Randall. “Mack’s commitment to safety goes beyond our trucks to those who share our nation’s roads. We’re proud to support the Share the Road drivers and their work to reach millions of people across the country with crucial messages about highway safety.”
Share the Road drivers travel the country to conduct demonstrations for students, media and policy makers. The drivers will travel the country next year in their new Anthem to teach the driving public about truck stopping distances, demonstrate potential truck blind spots and share other safety considerations that can help ensure safe travel for everyone on the road.
The Share the Road Anthem features a 13-liter Mack MP8 505C engine with 505 horsepower and 1,860 lbs.-ft. of torque paired with Mack’s 12-speed mDrive automated manual transmission.
Mack introduced the Anthem in September. The Anthem come standard with Mack Road Stability Advantage by Bendix and Bendix Wingman Fusion.
Randall said that since its introduction, orders for the Anthem “have outpaced what Mack will sell in 2017 for its current long-haul model.”
