Maffei and Sola take seats at FMC

The two newly sworn-in commissioners will fill four of the five available positions on the commission, which is charged with regulating liner shipping in U.S. trades.    President Trump’s two nominees to the Federal Maritime Commission, Louis E. Sola and Daniel B. Maffei, are now officially on board.
   Sola and Maffei were nominated by the president on Nov. 15, confirmed by the Senate on Jan. 2 and appointed to the commission by the president on Jan. 15.
    Sola will serve a term expiring on June 30, 2023, while Maffei will serve a term expiring on June 30, 2022. 
    Sola most recently served on the Florida Board of Pilots Commissioners and before that was a senior sales executive with Campers & Nicholson International. He also served as a consultant with Arden & Price authoring studies for the Inter-American Development Bank during the United States handover of the Panama Canal and taught at Florida State University-Republic of Panama. 
   Prior to his appointment, Maffei was a professor at George Washington University’s Graduate School of Political Management. He is no stranger to the FMC or Capitol Hill, having recently served two years on the FMC and two terms in Congress as a Democratic representative from New York.
   In addition to Acting Chairman Michael Khouri and Commissioner Rebecca Dye, the two newly sworn-in commissioners will fill four of the five available positions on the commission, which is charged with regulating liner shipping in U.S. trades.
