Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA) is recalling 5,604 Freightliner M2 Business Class medium-duty trucks built with Detroit DD5 engines. They could stall, increasing the risk of a crash.
On certain 2017-2021 models, the engine harness may contact and chafe at various locations around the air compressor and the frame rail. If damaged wires short circuit, a sudden loss of engine power could result.
Neither DTNA nor the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reported any crashes or injuries related to the condition. The recall includes 5,374 trucks in the U.S. and 230 in Canada.
DTNA will notify owners. Dealers will inspect for adequate clearance between harness and engine, and for any engine harness damage. Damaged harnesses will be replaced with a new harness that has a severe-duty wrap and additional hardware for routing.
The.repairs will be performed for free. The recall is expected to begin Oct. 5. The NHTSA recall number is 20V-466. The Transport Canada Recall number is 2020365.
