Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA) recently built the 700,000th truck at its Mount Holly, North Carolina, assembly plant, marking 41 years of production.
The milestone Freightliner M2 106 extended cab went to towing and recovery equipment maker Miller Industries (NYSE: MLR) based in Ooltewah, Tennessee, DTNA said in a press release.
More than 800 employees at the Mount Holly Truck Manufacturing plant produce the M2 106 and other Freightliner severe-duty truck models. The M2 106 is the industry’s best-selling Class 6/7 vehicle, DTNA said. Mount Holly also does sub-assembly work on Western Star models assembled in Cleveland, North Carolina.
DTNA works closely with the Miller engineering and manufacturing teams on chassis specifications. For example, air tanks are located to spec on the chassis to eliminate interference with body equipment. Clear electrical interfaces for the power takeoff (PTO) and lighting reduce assembly time.
