DOT helps repair South Carolina infrastructure after storm

The U.S. Department of Transportation on Tuesday released $5 million in emergency relief funds to South Carolina to repair storm-damaged roads and bridges.

The U.S. Transportation Department on Tuesday released $5 million in emergency relief funds from the Federal Highway Administration to the South Carolina Department of Transportation to assist with repairs to flood-damaged roads and bridges from the weekend’s storms.
“We want South Carolinians to know this funding is only a down payment on our commitment to ensuring all highways and bridges are repaired in the state. More resources will become available as estimates for the cost of repairs become clear,” said U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx in a statement.
Rainfall on Oct. 2 reached more than 20 inches in many areas of the state, resulting in severe flooding. Parts of major routes, such as I-95 and I-26, are currently closed for repairs and cleanup.
