Executive Moves: TOTE, CSA, PTV, FM and more

Appointments are made and new leaders take the helm in the United States, Europe and South America.

Jeff Dixon has assumed the role of president of TOTE Services following the retirement of Phil Greene Jr.
Dixon joined the company in May 2017 as the vice president of marine operations for the government and commercial sectors. He previously was a captain in the United States Coast Guard and spent 27 years on active duty, most recently in command of Sector Jacksonville, where he exercised captain of the port authority that included St. Mary’s/Fernandina, Jacksonville and Port Canaveral, Fla.

Jess Herrera has been elected president of the Port of Hueneme Board of Harbor Commissioners.
Herrera (pictured above being sworn in by his wife, Cynthia Herrera) was first elected to the board in 1994 and has been the longest consecutively serving commissioner in the port’s history. He also served 10 terms as executive officer of the International Longshore and Warehouse Union and eight terms as chairman of the union’s Southern California Regional Jurisdiction Committee.
Herrera has worked on the waterfront at the Port of Hueneme for 53 years and currently serves as a marine clerk coordinating the flow of ships and cargo.
Also elected to the board were Vice President Jess Ramirez and Secretary Jason Hodge. Mary Anne Rooney and Manuel Lopez will continue to serve as commissioners for 2019.

The Clean Shipping Alliance (CSA) 2020 has appointed Ian Adams as its executive director.
CSA, with members representing more than 30 ship-owning companies, was established last year to provide scientific-based information and research on the emissions abatement performance and environmental benefits of closed- and open-loop exhaust gas cleaning systems.
The alliance also has contracted the U.K.-based Maritime AMC to provide secretariat services.
Adams is the former chief executive of the International Bunker Industry Association.
“Good governance and secretariat services are essential to the success and effectiveness of any growing membership body. As such, we will work with CSA 2020’s officers to widely promote its mission and ensure that all industry stakeholders — flag states, nongovernmental organizations, administrations and regulators — have a more balanced, informed view of the solutions available for complying with the introduction of the IMO global sulphur cap in January 2020,” Adams said.
CSA 2020 will hold its first general assembly in February, when its leadership team and officers will be formally elected.

Rathor joined the airline in 2013 as a customer service agent after 11 years with Uneek Freight Services in the U.K. In 2014 he moved to Virgin Atlantic Cargo as an account manager.
“We are delighted to give Sumith this great opportunity to grow his career with the airline. Since joining our sales team in 2014, he has built up a loyal following in his customer base and helped to increase our revenues with key accounts through his strong customer focus approach,” said Steve Buckerfield, director of cargo sales.

Carpenter is the first woman aviator to be promoted to the flag rank in the U.S. Navy. During her 34-year career, she served in leadership roles that included deputy commander of the U.S. Second Fleet and commander of the Navy’s Warfare Development Command. After her retirement from the Navy in August 2011, Carpenter served as president of the State of New York Maritime College.
The Captain Phillips and Lane Kirkland Maritime Trust Foundation was created to promote the long-term strength of the U.S. maritime industry and the American Merchant Marine by generating public awareness, assisting individuals who want to pursue careers in maritime and advocating for public policy to ensure the viability of the industry and its workforce.
