Georgia Ports Authority appoints new chief operating officer

Ed McCarthy, formerly the chief operating officer for CMA CGM America, has been appointed to serve as the chief operating officer for the Georgia Ports Authority.

   The Georgia Ports Authority (GPA) has appointed Ed McCarthy to serve as chief operating officer. (COO).
   McCarthy was formerly CMA CGM America’s COO.
   “His experience at major shipping lines and port terminals on both coasts will deliver important insights as we work to capture new opportunities in Savannah and Brunswick,” said GPA Executive Director Griff Lynch in a statement.
   Named CMA CGM America’s senior vice president of operations in 2011, McCarthy was promoted to COO in 2013. Before CMA CGM, he served in senior management roles at Sealand Services, APM Terminals and Virginia International Terminals.
   As GPA’s COO, McCarthy will be responsible for growing GPA’s operations. His oversight includes the port authority’s engineering and facilities maintenance; information technology; equipment maintenance and crane and ship operations; container operations; breakbulk and bulk operations; protective services; strategic operations; and safety. These operations include a staff of 973 employees, or 90 percent of GPA’s total workforce.
