Kansas City Southern reports record revenues

Kansas City Southern had a net profit of $90.7 million in the third quarter, compared to $100.1 million in the same 2011 period.
The railroad said revenues hit a new record of $577 million, 6 percent more than the $544.5 million recorded in the same 2011 period.
David L. Starling, KCS president and chief executive officer, said “revenues were primarily driven by KCS’ five fastest growing categories – automotive, cross-border intermodal, container traffic through Lázaro Cárdenas, crude oil and frac sand. Collectively, these five categories, which represent approximately 18 percent of total KCS freight revenues for the third quarter, grew by 46 percent when compared to the third quarter 2011, and we believe that there is significant long term growth potential in each of these areas.”
