Maersk outlines Chinese New Year plans for Asia-North Europe trade

Maersk, in its Dec. 17 “Weekly Highlights” newsletter, has laid out contingency plans in connection with the upcoming Chinese New Year period.
“We have endeavored to balance our network capacity to match the reduced demand for the three week period. We aim to minimize the impact to our customers by securing alternate routings wherever possible and we will continue to deliver on the Daily Maersk Transportation Time Promise,” the company said.
Maersk said it is also “evaluating a non-disruptive phase-in plan for taking delivery of the additional Triple-E vessels” during the first half of 2014.
“The purpose of which is to manage our capacity growth in line with market requirements. By doing so, we will be reducing our carrying capacity in six pre-selected weeks during 1H 2014,” Maersk said. “A few port corridors will unfortunately be affected by these capacity reductions, for which we will be shifting volumes to other services in our network that cover similar geographies.”
Details are are available in the Dec. 17 newsletter.
