MOL Comfort blaze continues

MOL said Tuesday morning that a fire continues to burn on its wrecked containership MOL Comfort.
The company said “due to adverse weather, the work has not been progressing
smoothly and the fire is not yet under control. Observations show that
many containers on the deck have been burnt out.”
MOL Comfort broke in half June 17 in a storm and all crewmen were rescued without injury. The aft part sank June 27, and a fire broke out on the remaining section of the ship on July 6 as it was being towed to a port in Oman.
The company said a tug boat and two rescue boats have been responding to the fire. On top of these three boats, the salvage company requested assistance of the Indian Coast Guard for fire fighting, and their patrol boat Samudra Prahari, with an external fire fighting system, arrived at the scene early morning July 8, and immediately started fire fighting. MOL said 24 hours later, the fire was not yet under control. – Chris Dupin
