Obama nominates Daniel B. Maffei to become Federal Maritime Commissioner

Maffei, a former U.S. Representative for New York, will take the place of current Commissioner Richard A. Lidinsky, Jr., according to a statement from the White House.

   President Obama has nominated Daniel B. Maffei of New York, to be a Federal Maritime Commissioner for a term expiring June 30, 2017. He will take the place of Commissioner Richard A. Lidinsky, Jr., according to a statement from the White House.
   Maffei previously served as U.S. Representative for New York’s 24th congressional district from 2013 to 2015 and for New York’s 25th congressional district from 2009 to 2011. His bid for reelection failed in 2014. He is currently a senior fellow at the Center for the Study of the Presidency and Congress.
   Commissioner Lidinsky of Baltimore was nominated
by President Barack Obama on June 18, 2009, and confirmed by the Senate
on July 24, 2009. On Sept. 11, 2009 he was designated chairman and
served in that capacity until April 1, 2013, when Mario Cordero took over as FMC chairman, with Lidinsky continuing to serve as one of the agencies five commissioners.
