Senate confirms Maffei to serve on FMC

The United States Senate also confirmed the reappointment of Federal Maritime Commissioners Rebecca F. Dye and Michael A. Khouri, whose terms will now last until 2020 and 2021, respectively.

The United States Senate confirmed President Obama’s appointment of Daniel B. Maffei to the Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) last night, whose term as one of the agency’s five commissioners will expire in 2017.
Maffei, a former Democratic congressman from upstate New York, will replace Richard A. Lidinsky, who has served as an FMC commissioner since 2009 and chaired the agency from 2009 until 2013.
The Senate also confirmed the reappointment of FMC Commissioners Rebecca F. Dye and Michael A. Khouri, whose terms will now last until 2020 and 2021, respectively.
A native of New York, Maffei has served as U.S. Representative for New York’s 24th congressional district from 2013 to 2015 and for New York’s 25th congressional district from 2009 to 2011.
“As a former Congressman, Dan Maffei brings a unique perspective
to the FMC. I am looking forward to officially
welcoming him aboard and working with him to serve the interests of the
American shipping public,” FMC Chairman Mario Cordero said. “His predecessor, Richard A.
Lidinsky, has had a long career in ports and shipping. I hope that he
found his experience as a commissioner and chairman of the commission to
be rewarding and gratifying. We wish him all the best in his future
endeavors.”
“Each of these individuals is not only committed to public service, but they also take the core mission of the commission seriously,” Cordero said. “The shipping industry is going through a period of significant change that dictates our close attention. As a body, we are going to have as much work to do as ever before, and I am grateful we have a full complement of commissioners.”
