Short-term tug worker strikes expected at Australian ports

Tugboat workers are expected to carry out 12-hour strikes at the ports of Geelong, Newcastle, Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, which could cause cargo delays, according to local media reports.

Short-term delays are expected at large ports on Australia’s East Coast as a result of 12-hour strikes by tugboat workers today, according to the reports from the Australian Financial Review.
The newspaper said workers are “planning to walk off the job after an agreement could not be struck with tug boat engineers.”
Svitzer Australia is “pushing to have three unions representing its workers under one agreement,” and the Australian Institute of Marine and Power Engineers is concerned this “would result in inferior conditions for its workers,” the newspaper added.
