Trump signs bill to give CBP more opioid screening devices

The International Narcotics Trafficking Emergency Response by Detecting Incoming Contraband with Technology (INTERDICT) Act requires U.S. Customs and Border Protection to increase the number of chemical screening devices available to officers.

   President Donald Trump signed the International Narcotics Trafficking Emergency Response by Detecting Incoming Contraband with Technology (INTERDICT) Act into law last Wednesday.
   The law requires U.S. Customs and Border Protection to increase the number of chemical screening devices available to officers in order to seize opioids illegally imported into the U.S., the White House announced.
   The House voted to pass the bill on Oct. 24, 2017, and the Senate used an expedited consideration procedure to pass the legislation on Dec. 21, 2017.
