UASC to expand reefer fleet

The liner carrier said the reefer units will enhance its transport service offerings in South America.

United Arab Shipping Co. said it plans to make “significant” investment in new refrigerated containers.
The carrier neither disclosed the extent of the investment nor the number of reefers it plans to add to its fleet in its press release.
However, UASC said the reefer units will enhance its transport service offerings in South America. UASC’s expansion into this trades follows its recently announced cooperation with Hamburg Süd.
“With a global network servicing established and emerging markets, UASC’s steadily expanding reefer fleet is one of the youngest in the industry, with an average reefer container age of three years,” Gareth Madsen, head of reefer management at UASC, in a statement.
This announcement follows news of UASC’s current new shipbuilding program, comprising 17 ships (11 14,500-TEU vessels and six 18,800-TEU vessels), and cooperation with liner shipping companies CMA CGM and China Shipping Container Lines to form the Ocean Three alliance.
